This is a bigger spinning reel great for larger freshwater fish, or anything that likes to fight. The construction of this is impeccable, everything is quality and the smoothness of the bearings and gears is great. I've used this on several rods so far this year and tried it both right and left handed, great for either. Can't say enough good things about this it's helped me bag some big ones!Smooth motion and movement, reels and casts like a butter, quality gears and body. Standard spinning reel for large size fishing, wouldn't put anything under 10ft pole.Overall good product. We have been waiting for the chance to review these 13 Fishing Kalon reels. We finally got the chance this past weekend to get out and test the 4.0, the 2.0 and then this 0.5 right here. Of the three, this one is about as standard as they come. Nothing fancy about this one, and there were several things that made me feel like this reel would actually be the most effective starter reel for kids. By saying that, I don't mean to imply that it looks like a kids toy reel, I just mean in the way that the construction is done to where you don't have anything to really worry about getting all scratched up, plus the plastic handle has more of a rubber grip for non-slip, little wet hands. I found that quite nice so that was one of my first thoughts. We had our 11 year old start out with this reel, and he has had his fair share of fishing excursions so he is not entirely a new angler, and he immediately reported that he love how light the feel was, the crank was smooth, that the retrieve was smooth, and that he didn't have some of the reel tangle or hitching that he has with his other reel. Not entirely sure how long this will hold up only time will tell of course as with any other reel. For a more affordable reel, this seems like it is going to do well for him. Fishing gear has become quite costly, as with everything else these days, and I feel like this reel for our purpose, still falls in line with the other 2 Kalon reels we have tested out this weekend, just as budget friendly and would also make a nice gift. Your more professional anglers probably would pass on this reel, and that's perfectly okay. Construction of a reel is pretty important, but also, aesthetics tend to play a part even if they try to tell you it doesn't. So if I were to have anything objective to add to this review, it would only be that it looks a little on the cheap side, but I can say, I tried it out too and it does not perform cheaply. I do recommend this reel especially for beginners and I hope you find this review helpful.Easy to spool line nice casting reeling is fast and line doesn’t tangle easily good for fresh water fishingQuick and easy install. Smooth casting action. ambidextrous, can use for left or right hand. Construction material feels like a mixture of plastic and metal so durability is yet to be determined. Replaced older spinning reel and feels solid.I needed a new slightly larger reel, so I decided to try the 13 Fishing brand because I'm an avid listener of the Bent Podcast and 13 Fishing is a sponsor. I paired this reel with a 7' 0" Star Seagis and I plan to use it for saltwater fishing. I spooled it with Kast King 65 pound braid. My intentions for this rig are to pull big redfish out from under docks, but I may be able to jetty fish as well as throw baits for Tarpon, Jacks, Cobia, etc.. The drag is a "click" style which I normally stay away from, I prefer the tightening style with infinite adjustments. Also, the drag is quiet when It is being pulled out, I prefer a satisfying buzz when line is being taken. This reel does not have an anti-reverse switch which I've noticed about Penn reels as well. While one of my biggest pet peeves is when the switch gets tripped and your reel goes backwards, usually when you are setting the hook of course, I do use some reels in reverse mode for specific applications. Thankfully, I don't see a need for this switch for the planned applications. SO far the reel seems solid, and well put together. It's a good looking reel with smooth rotation. I hope with general cleaning and rinsing I can keep this one around for several years, even though it will be used in saltwater.Don't forget you can use Amazon Smile when you shop to donate to your favorite charity! Bail is smooth although a little tight. Comfortable reel, easy to use!We have a good bit of 13 Fishing gear and so far have been pretty happy with it. Especially the ice fishing gear and the bait-casting reels. These spinner reels are pretty mid-range. Not overly special, but they do the job. They're a good option for the extra rod. When you want a reel for your extra rod, but don't want to spend a lot, but also want something that will still work well for you, this reel fits that bill.Fonctionne très bien!
